Short version: We are building an intersectional, inclusive, self-organized residential and cultural center in Haidhausen, Munich. We have been working on it for 9 years and now have a plot of land, plans and a building permit – now the construction costs have increased and we need financial support. Help to build a care-centered society and send this message to friends and to solidarity mailing-lists and groups!
Hello everyone!
What would it be like if care – mutual aid and understanding – was at the center of our society? If disabled people, refugees and the elderly were not excluded in institutions, but were part of caring communities?
We have been working on building such a place for 9 years. We have a property in Munich on Metzgerstrasse, 200 meters from the Bavarian State Parliament (yes, really… crazy, right?). There we want to live together in solidarity as a diverse group of people with and without disabilities, with and without refugee status, children and adults.
On the ground floor we want to create a space for intersectional networking, for queer / crip / bipoc groups, for political initiatives and collectives. We want to open up a space for all those who have difficulty finding accessible and safe spaces. We want to share our privileges with those who want to organize themselves for a more solidarity-based, caring society. In practical terms, this means that we want to operate a barrier-free Küfa (kitchen for everyone) and a free food place on the ground floor.
Our house, Metzgerstrasse 5A, is intended to be a residential and cultural center in which solidarity and care are lived and passed on in practice. A place of intersectional networking and solidarity-based, collective care practices that – to our knowledge – is unique in this form in Germany. We want to be a seed for a different way of living together, organizing ourselves and having an impact on the outside world. We want to be a place of learning and deep connection for a wide variety of movements (disability justice, decolonization, climate justice, LGBTIQ*, …). We want to open up space and lovingly hold it for intergenerational and anti-discriminatory reconciliation, healing and care work. We want to work together with solidarity initiatives, housing projects and collectives in Munich and beyond.
We need the combined strength of all of you!
With the support of numerous people in solidarity, we have already raised €1,150,000 for the house construction. Now the construction costs have risen unexpectedly. We need €500,000 by March 2025. Because we have to start construction by March at the latest, otherwise the building shell could not be finished by winter 25/26 and we would have to pay punitive tariffs for the construction delay.
We are looking for people who will support us through direct loans, solidarity cooperative deposits and donations. Every amount, no matter how small, counts! Investments are possible from €500 up to a maximum of €100,000. As time is of the essence, a temporary investment also helps us (e.g. if someone has money in their account and knows they won’t need it again for a year, it can be loaned for a limited period, giving us more time to raise the necessary money). We have great confidence that together we will succeed in collecting the necessary money.
If you want to support us with a solidarity investment, register here on our website – we will get back to you as soon as possible:

You can also help us by forwarding this message to friends and to solidarity mailing lists and groups and telling people about it. Feel free to write to us if you have any ideas where we could turn directly or, for example, a press contact for someone who could imagine publishing an article about us.
Finally, one more thing that is important for us to emphasize: There exist by now quite many housing projects / self-managed houses / communes / communities / solidarity structures throughout Germany and beyond. This is wonderful and a development that gives strength and shows how, step by step, a different world is emerging in the old. What is unfortunately still rare: places that are supported by disabled / bipoc / trans / queer perspectives (i.e. places where people with one or more of these characteristics are in the majority in the core or founding group). This has to change! And of course this also has to do with capital: disabled / bipoc / trans / queer people have less financial capital, fewer social relationships and fewer time resources. Here too, redistribution is needed!
If we want to build a more solidarity-based world together, this means that this can only succeed if we focus on marginalized voices and perspectives. This means: disabled / bipoc / trans / queer people must be at the center of the processes, language, decision-making and strategies of solidarity structures.
